Community Update – WordPress Plugin, Memory Access, MinGW

We are excited to release an update on the recent developments of the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

MoneroV WP Plugin Update

The official  MoneroV WooCommerce Plugin (MonerovWP) has been upgraded.

WooCommerce powers more than 110,000 e-commerce websites, from small family businesses to large established brands. It is the largest platform vendors use to sell both digital and physical items online. Anyone with a WordPress based website can now accept MoneroV as a choice of payment on their website.

MoneroV can now be easily used to buy products securely and anonymously through the WooCommerce platform. The MoneroV WP Plugin exposes MoneroV to a larger section of users and merchants who seek to use privacy-focused cryptocurrencies while shopping or selling online and enable them to transact everyday anonymously.

Getting started with the MonerovWP Plugin is easy and straightforward-

Our team is working on and looking forward to implementing more plugins and extension to include XMV on common eCommerce gateways. Join the community as we help onboard more websites use XMV as the secure, anonymous currency default.

MinGW, Epee and Memory Access Big Fixes

We have fixed multiple compilation issues in the test suite under MinGW. This will also cause the buildbot to run the tests without issues under Windows. In addition, an iostream bug in Epee was fixed and a fix was issued for incorrect memory access in devices.

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Community Update – CoinDar, HitBTC Integration, Website re-design

We are excited to release an update on the recent developments of the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

HitBTC Integration

Our team’s communication with HitBTC has started more than a year ago where we have complied with all technical requests and have agreed to the terms to list XMV on chain-split day. The community was both excited and hopeful of the quick listing and XMV distribution as soon as the chain-split occurred and as promised, especially after a significant payment to HitBTC’s Bitcoin address on March 26th, 2018.

Delays on their part and further requests have been sent to the team,  as more than 200 of emails were exchanged back and forth. It occurred to us that every new request by HitBTC’s team is made to delay the eventual listing, with new demands that were not agreed upon surfacing again and again. To this date, no technical issues or known problem with the MoneroV network should hinder the ability to list and distribute XMV. The blockchain is 100% open sourced since launch and supported by a healthy network of miners.

We would like to remind that this exchange has listed other CryptoNightV7 coins which have no supporting community or working technical assets and have failed to explain to us how they managed to integrate them so quickly while XMV was left behind.

Our team is positively waiting for HitBTC to list XMV as agreed upon and will continue to communicate with their team.

Coindar Listing, Re-design

We are happy to say the more blockchain-related websites have been implementing the data and including MoneroV on their platform, one of the latest ones being Coindar.

Redesign of the MoneroV website has been initiated by community member @JOHN M.L and will be put to review and possible integration after finalization. The design was meant to include a better mobile interface and the inclusion of exchanges & services that feature Monero.

Additional updates:

  • Double header in unsigned transfer file fixe
  • Delay when setting auto-refresh off in simplewallet was fixed
  • Double log printing fixed

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Community Update – Double TX Race Condition, CoinMarketCap, P2P Connection

We are excited to release an update on the recent developments of the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Double TX Race Condition Fix

An issue revolving a possible denial of service attack has been fixed in the latest release. An attacker would have been able to constructer two identical transactions and add them to the tx pool and render it useless. Although the blockchain would reject the second transaction in any case, the MoneroV daemon failed to clean the transaction pool due to a race condition.

The recent fix includes a lock to prevent such case and third-party service are advised to update their daemon.

CoinMarketCap Listing

The team and community are excited and embracing the latest addition of $XMV to CoinMarketCap, the leading cryptocurrency tracking tool established in 2013. This is in addition to existing trackers listings such as CoinGecko, CoinLib.io, CoinCodex and others.

Our team is in talks with other indexes such as Whattomine and welcome the community support in outreach to these.

P2P Connection Upgrade

In many instances, the MoneroV daemon might not be reachable due to a misconfigured server, a server’s outbound or inbound connection loss or an unforeseen underlining bug. Until this current update, there was no way for a MoneroV daemon operator to notice such an event without installing specific monitoring services on his server. This could cost a loss of significant XMV mining revenue, trading revenue to exchanges and render a custodian service useless.

The latest update ensures the operator receives a warning when inbound connections are lost and can act quickly by configuring a way to automatically restart the daemon.

Additional updates:

  • The protocol handler was updated
  • The fee command was fixed to use the correct sum
  • Epee’s http controller was upgraded and is now working faster

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Community Update – Win 64 Wallet Fix, Network Hash Rate , Trading

We are excited to release an update on the recent developments of the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

XMV Mining, Network Hashrate, Exchanges

With the recent adoption of XMV by different mining pools and exchange platforms such as TradeOgre and Crex24, price fluctuations led to a rapid increase in network hash rate. The network is now stable at 4.5-6.5 M/hs.

We invite all solo miners and pools to benefit from the MoneroV network and help with mining decentralization as the XMV blockchain continues to evolve. You can read more on the basics of mining XMV in this Blockonomi article.

It is worth noting that solo miners can only use their CPU’s computing power to mine MoneroV. CryptoNightv7 algorithm is CPU-optimized and takes some advantage away from GPU miners. By mining through XMV desktop wallet, solo miners contribute to the decentralization and resilience of the MoneroV network.

BuildBot, Win 64, Linux and MacOS Wallet Build Fixes

MoneroV uses BuildBot, a highly specialized continuous integration tool, to test the validity of every commit pushed to the official MoneroV repository. The complexity of both the different target platforms and the MoneroV codebase required a dedicated way to compile the source code and test it using a custom BuildBot server rather than using more traditional tools such as TravisCI and Jenkins.

The BuildBot server contains additional virtual servers for Windows 64-bit, Windows 32-bit, and Linux 64-bit while the MacOS integration testing occurs in a different dedicated live server.

Recently, the Windows virtual servers have been corrupted by the third-party hosting service. While daily backup exists and the virtual servers were restored, there were additional networking issues between the master-slave node and the slaves which caused the build itself to fail tests and be nonresponsive at times, which is crucial to the flow of the build process. Thankfully the DevOps team managed to rapidly resolve these issues and normal operations were restored. The BuildBot fix was crucial for the ultimate goal of fixing Both the Windows and Linux builds that were required by several third-party services.

Additional updates:

  • Warning for clean target added
  • Monerovd now use 100% CPU when running with torsocks
  • Buffer overflow in import_key_images was fixed
  • Pointer build errors were fixed

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Community Update – Watch-only Wallet, SpendProof Fix, Miner Thread Limit

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Watch-only Wallet Update

The watch only wallet was updated to include a check for the accuracy of the wallet balances. This update is a continuation of previous additions that are aimed to mitigate against double count attacks on services using MoneroV. The MoneroV wallet will now both block a double count attack on the watch-only wallet and issue a warning upon such attempt. This is useful primarily for exchanges and other services who mainly use the watch-only wallet in their API’s to make transactional recordings which are critical to their operations.

Major SpendProof Fix

SpendProof “Invalid signature size” is now mitigated in the latest code addition. The fix includes returning a bad signature warning instead of throwing an error which has been triggered inappropriately in the case of checking a different txid than the one that was used to create the signature. This bug caused multiple issues for many third-party services that integrated MoneroV in the past.

Additional updates:

  • Miner thread limits lifted
  • Multiple caches are now invalidated when popping blocks
  • Type name when size check fails in now logged
  • Build data dir fixed

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Community Update – Seed Nodes Fallback, Speedup Boost & Mnemonics Failures

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Seed Nodes Fallback Overhaul

In MoneroV there is a fallback seed node list in the case the original seed nodes list is unreachable or is taken down by a third party (there are several other methods MoneroV can circumvent potential contingencies). It was discovered that these seed nodes were added to the seed nodes list even when they had already been added.

In addition, their index was not reset after they were added, typically causing previous seed nodes to be used, and some of those fallback seeds to not be reached. The latest versions includes an overhaul in the way MoneroV fallbacks to even more servers in case of failure to the main seed node list.

Major Speedup Boost & Mnemonics Failures Fix

We suggest updating to the latest version as the new MoneroV version includes improved ways to debug mnemonic seed failures. Using the new version, more logging is provided when troubleshooting these failures. In addition, a significant performance boost was recorded due to skipping the “dust” output amounts.

Additional updates:

  • Verification errors with default settings in ringct changed
  • Configurable console output in Wallet API is now allowed
  • Peer state data added to synching info
  • FindReadline in CMake updated

Community Update – Fix RCT outputs in coinbase transactions

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Handling RCT Outputs in Coinbase Transactions Bug Fixed

In MoneroV, RingCT is designed so that the amount of XMV displayed to the user is different from the XMV amount checked by the network.

When a coinbase transaction is created it will include a null RCT signature and an amount in plain text. The network will construct a commitment from this amount.

However, if the coinbase transaction includes a non-null RCT signature, it will be able to communicate a masked amount too. This vulnerability was patched and we advise third-party service to update their MoneroV daemon.

Daemon Caching Upgrade

We suggest updating to the latest version as the new MoneroV version includes improved ways to store and release cache.  This significantly speeds up the daemon connection and the user’s need for a secure and private persistent storage.

Additional updates:

  • Setting no logs in mlog fixed
  • Added required dependency of boost::this_thread::sleep_for
  • Removed span reads that failed to pass some basic tests
  • Fixed return type mismatches bug

Community Update – Multisig Arbitrary Messages, Sanity Check Crash

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Multisig Arbitrary Messages Upgrade

A major addition to the Multisig functionality was added. Multisig messages can now contain service data like “what is the synchronization status” or “I disagree to sign this transaction proposal”. These messages are able to be signed and verified by others and they all can be sure the messages remain unchanged. This service provides the ability to exchange keys and partial images between multisig participants.

Sanity Check Crash and Execution Fixes

Several sanity checks such as one in the detach_blockchain method when importing multisig information were corrupt and were fixed. In addition, numerous updates were done in simplewallet that changed the way methods end their execution. These methods usually involved the version and help methods.

Since multiple methods had their code execution changed, we advise third parties to upgrade to the newest version only after ensuring these methods were not used, and if they were, to change them accordingly.

Additional updates:

  • Increase RPC timeout for get_output_distribution in the wallet
  • Add missing parameters to get_output_histogram
  • Added debugging information when blocks are found

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Community Update – RPC Server – Remote Node

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Core RPC Server Update

The core RPC server was updated to cache the vast majority of calls for long-running wallets. This is a significant performance improvement to the RPC server and we advise third-party services to update their MoneroV Daemon.

MoneroV Daemon Upgrade

The daemon config reading was causing several bugs and delays running the daemon. The MoneroV daemon was upgraded to properly read the configuration file prior to initializing other dependencies. This solves the bug users have reported of the daemon exiting unintentionally on Windows-based machines. We strongly advise service who use Windows-based servers  to update their node.

Remote Node Attack

In the past several days we detected attacks on the public remote MoneroV node. The DDOS attack comprises of garbage requests to the open public port at remote.monerov.org and several other attack vectors that we are actively mitigating against.

While the service is working slowly, we kindly request users who use the remote node to be patient while we work on getting the service back to speed. We will issue an update when the service is fully operational and at this moment we advise users to use the local node instead.

Additional updates:

  • Missing perf timer for get_output_distribution fixed
  • Transaction date with timestamp in show_transfers added

Random Mutex Initialization Fix

An issue in the way the random mutex in the core crypto component was selected was faulty. This bug exists in all Cryptonote based coins and although it isn’t critical, we suggest everyone upgrade to the newest version as the selection order is fixed in the latest release.

Improper Log Levels Overall Fix

The MoneroV daemon log levels have had a major overhaul change and improper log levels were fixed in simplewallet. In additon, the GUI wallet has been updated to work even faster and previous lagging components were fixed.

Daemon HTTP Parsing Improvement

An update to the MoneroV peer-to-peer protocol fixed a couple of bugs which prevented users from connecting into the MoneroV protocol including an additional HTTP parsing bug. Users who have been facing connectivity issues should upgrade their clients to ensure a steady connection to the network.
