Chain Split / Snapshot / Fork FAQ

What exactly is MoneroV?

MoneroV (XMV) is a private, untraceable, finite and secure cryptocurrency fork of the Monero (XMR) blockchain. A hard-fork split will occur at block 1564965 when MoneroV miners will start to create blocks on the MoneroV network.

Where can I read more about the project?

You can start by visiting the homepage, reading the roadmap paper and going through the official ANN thread.

When will the snapshot occur?

The exact time the snapshot will occur is when the Monero blockchain will reach block 1564965. We will be announcing the exact time as soon as we approach the block height on social media, official website, and the Telegram group. See MoneroV’s blockchain explorer.

Should I hold Monero at the snapshot date?

It’s important to keep your Monero locally or with a supporting exchange at the time of the snapshot (block 1564965). After that time, you can use, trade and move your XMR freely knowing you will still be credited with the new XMV coin.

Is it safe to participate in this fork?

The Monero and MoneroV private keys, and by extension the XMR & XMV coins of holders, are completely safe as long as the official MoneroV wallet is being used to claim the MoneroV coins. The wallet’s source code and all other dependencies will be published and open sourced before it is released in its downloadable form.

How can I safely participate in the fork?

1. Hold XMR locally as you would at the time of the snapshot.
2. Wait for the official open-source MoneroV wallet announcement.
3. Download the MoneroV wallet ONLY from the official website or Github repo.
4. Extract XMV using the official wallet anytime in the future.

NOTE: You can extract the XMV from an empty/altered wallet that had XMR at the time of the snapshot. Meaning you can send your XMR to another wallet prior to extracting XMV.

What will happen to Monero after the MoneroV Fork?

MoneroV team and project are not related to or affiliated with the Monero project development team. The Monero project continues its own path and development.

Can XMV be mined?

XMV will be minable similar to XMR after the fork will take place. You cannot mine XMV prior to the fork date. You can use a Monero miner to mine MoneroV, although a dedicated miner would be made available.

Which pools can we mine XMV on?

You will have the ability to mine XMV on the official public pool announced after the fork. No official announcements for other supporting pools yet. As more news will become available closer to fork date, we will be announcing public pools supporting MoneroV mining.

*UPDATE Official MoneroV pools have been tested and are ready for launch on fork date.

*UPDATE – MinerGate pool has announced support of the MoneroV fork. See their announcement tweet.

*UPDATE MoriaXMR, Just-mine.it, fatpanda, Baikal pool, leafpool.com and MinerHills pools are ready to support the upcoming MoneroV network!

What are some key points Monerov presents?

– Max coin supply – Austrian school of economics principles
– Truly private & decentralized. No ‘face’ of the project and coin as with Monero.
– Mitigate unethical mining by a change of PoW (browser mining, botnets).
– First crypto-dividend to Monero holders.
– Full-time development team.
– Exciting blockchain scaling plans.

Claiming XMV

How does the distribution of XMV work?

Holders of Monero at the snapshot block will be owners of the new MoneroV coin and will receive 10 times the Monero amount as MoneroV coins (XMV). For example, if you hold 1 Monero coin (XMR) prior to the fork, you will own 10 MoneroV after the fork. The same is true for partial Monero amount. Holding 0.5 XMR will grant you 5 XMV.

Can I empty my wallet before claiming the XMV coins?

Yes. As long as the wallet had Monero at the time of the fork, you will be credited with XMV.

How to claim XMV after the fork?

*Note that an official guide will be released in order to simplify the process as soon as the MoneroV wallet is out.
Simply put, you would need to import PK of a wallet that held XMR at the time of the snapshot to the official open-source MoneroV wallet.

You can extract the XMV from an empty/altered wallet that had XMR at the time of the snapshot. Meaning you can send your XMR to another wallet prior to extracting XMV. In case we will be announcing an exchange support, you will be credited automatically by the supporting custodian with XMV. Stay tuned for news regarding exchanges supporting the fork.

Wallets, Exchanges, and Custodian Support

Which wallets will credit me with this fork?

Any wallet that that provides you with access to your own private keys so that you can import them into the XMV wallet to receive your forked coins. Suggested wallets include the official getmonero.org GUI/CLI wallets, mymonero.com web-based wallet.

*NOTE – We do not claim to have ‘official’ support from the above or any other wallets. It is still the case that having XMR on these wallets at the time of the snapshot will credit you with XMV, extractable anytime in the future.

Which exchanges support the Monero fork?

Official statements by exchanges were already made by HitBTCBTC-alpha CoinroomCoinEx, Octaex, Crex24 & Ovis. It is expected that other medium-large exchanges will support the fork after examining the blockchain. It is recommended you store your XMR locally or with a supporting exchange/custodian service.e will announce supporting exchanges once they are secured and final on all channels. This is a repeated question we get a lot, please know that we are doing our best to update our supporters with news regarding custodian support.

*UPDATE HitBTC, highest volume Monero exchange has announced official support of the fork, listing & crediting XMV to XMR holders.

*UPDATE – BTC-alpha exchange has announced official support of the fork, Listing & crediting XMV to XMR holders.

*UPDATE Ovis exchange has announced official support of the fork, crediting XMV to XMR holders.

*UPDATE Additional exchange support has been announced by Coinroom, CoinEx, Crex24 & Octaex!

When will the MoneroV wallet be released?

The official MoneroV wallet, in addition to other dependencies such as the MoneroV daemon will be released a few days after the blockchain snapshot date, as compilation and setup can only occur after the 1564965 blockchain height point.

Will we have a ‘lite’ wallet version on the fork date?

The first released MoneroV wallet will be a full GUI wallet similar to what you are using with getmonero.org. Second ‘lite’ version of the wallet where you do not need download the entire blockchain is planned for future development and will be available sometime after the fork.

Where could I obtain the official wallet?

The official MoneroV wallet will be available on the official website and announced on official MoneroV social channels.

Where can I buy MoneroV?

The only way to obtain XMV is by holding Monero at the time of the snapshot, or trade (buy/sell) after the fork is completed. There is NO eth token airdrop given by MoneroV. If you see any such claims, AVOID and report if possible.

Where can I purchase Monero?

You can purchase Monero on any exchange or service supporting XMR trade. See the leading exchanges by volume on CMC or visit the ‘how to buy’ explanation by monero.how.

Miscellaneous

What will be the price of each XMV?

Prices of coins and currencies are market dependent and could not be predicted. We do not speculate on the future price of XMV (or other coins for that matter).

I’ve read confusing arguments about Monerov’s finite supply surpassing Monero’s supply soon?

The claims you’ve seen did not factor in the percentages and the proportional distribution. To start with, every Monero holder receives 10 times the amount in XMV. Because this is an even distribution, the purchasing value stays the same and there is no inflation. Afterwards, the inflation of both coins is exactly the same percentage wise until XMV hits 256 Million (XMR would be at this point 25.6 Million). After that point, MoneroV will stop inflating as it hit the max supply while Monero will keep inflating indefinitely.

Why was the MoneroV Reddit restricted?

The sub was brigaded and attacked by hundreds of Monero’s community members. Read the locking announcement on Reddit.

Why does your white paper link to the CryptoNote white paper?

The whitepaper should point to the CryptoNote whitepaper as it’s the current underlining protocol of both Monero and MoneroV.

How can I get involved with MoneroV?

You are welcome to get in touch via email or all social channels present on the bottom of this page. We are looking for talented C++ & Node.js developers as well as front-end developers and DevOps engineers.

What are some technical specs for MoneroV?

– Total Supply – Capped at 256 Million XMV
– Circulating Supply at Hard Fork Split – ~158 Million XMV (10x circulating XMR supply).
– Proof of Work – CryptoNight (to be modified)
– Difficulty Retarget – Every block. Adjusted difficulty initially after the split.
– Block Time – Every 2 minutes.
– Block Reward – Smooth decrease. Minimum of 6 XMV per block.
– Block Size – Dynamic.
– Privacy – Ring signature / stealth addresses.
