Community Update – Daemon Connection, Proof of Work Hash

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

Daemon Connection Upgrade

The new version of the MoneroV daemon includes a new way to connect to the daemon that reuses a single point of connection rather than reconnecting every time the daemon is prompted to do so. This significantly speeds up the daemon connection and we suggest to update to the latest MoneroV version.

Proof of Work Hash added to RPC

The proof of work hash was added to the RPC and now the PoW is included for each block header and can be returned by the client RPC. This feature was requested by pools and other third parties can use it for their internal processes.

MoneroV Web Wallet Update

The MoneroV web wallet has been released several weeks ago and can be found on getmonerov.com. We have received notifications from users about graphical errors and loading issues with the Web Wallet. Please beware that this is a development version on mainnet. We advise you not to use the Web Wallet unless you know what you are doing. Additionally, please verify you are using the right url https://getmonerov.com. Any other web wallet out there is a phishing attempt to steal your XMV.

The MoneroV team does not store your private login key on the server, so there is no way to recover it if it is lost!  This convenience comes at a cost, there is considerable risk in using this service for any amount. For long-term storage of MoneroV you should preferably create a cold wallet. Our team will keep on improving the realise as with all other improvements to the blockchain and the project.

XMV Pools & Mining

The MoneroV network has been stabilized since launch with and keeping growth with both the distribution of hashrate, and supporting pools. Join a current pool, or add your own pool to the list of available pools available on miningpoolstats.stream/monerov

Additional updates:

  • Unit tests for 3rd party devices were added
  • Threaded v1 transaction verification was fixed
  • Multiple warning messages were added and fixed in wallet

Community Update – MoneroV Web Wallet Alpha

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

MoneroV Web Wallet Alpha

The MoneroV web wallet has been released and can be found on getmonerov.com. You can now receive and transfer XMV by opening a MoneroV wallet online! This is development version on mainnet. Don’t use the Web Wallet unless you know what you are doing.

Please beware as the website or MoneroV team do not store your private login key on the server, there is no way to recover it if it is lost!

Your private login key can also never be changed, and if it is stolen or otherwise compromised, you will have to move your funds to a new account with a new private login key. Therefore, it is best that you backup your private login key by writing it down, perhaps obscuring it as part of a poem or letter, and storing it in multiple safe and secure places.

This is a web-based interface that allows you to use MoneroV without running a full MoneroV node. However, because this convenience comes at a cost: it is extremely difficult to securely deliver its code to your browser. This means that there is considerable risk in using this service for any amount!

It is recommended that you treat this service as you would treat your actual wallet, and not store very large amounts in it. You should consider any amount here as lost. For long-term storage of MoneroV you should preferably create a cold wallet.

XMV Pools & Mining

We are happy the network has been stabilized since launch and keeping growth with both the distribution of hashrate, and supporting pools. You can SOLO mine, join a current pool, or add your own pool to the list of available pools available on miningpoolstats.stream/monerov

MoneroV Web Wallet Alpha

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin into your website.

MoneroV network peer connection upgrade

A major update has been made to the way the MoneroV daemon connection network operates. Up until the December the 7th, peers in the MoneroV blockchain used to receive blocks from other peers and determine whether they are usable or not (ie if the sending peer yielded suitable blocks that can be added to the blockchain). From December the 7th onwards, the above check will include a method that not only verifies the sending peer’s latest hash but prevalidates a hash of hashes of all latest blocks.

In case the hash of hashes is invalid the peer connection will be dropped and the abusing peer will get disconnected from all other nodes in the network. This will significantly improve the peer connection overflow in the MoneroV network and we advise to update to the latest daemon.

Safe sync mode & trusted/untrusted daemons

The MoneroV daemon was updated to include two improvements that should make using MoneroV even more secure than it already is: An option for trusted and untrusted connections and an improvement to the unsafe mode. Users can now specify whether they want to trust a third party connection such as a remote node service. Using the default untrusted method is particularly useful for users who use the Tor network to access their favorite MoneroV nodes and Onion based services as MoneroV will automatically obfuscate data sent to these node services.

In addition, an improvement to the Cryptonote protocol was included in which switching to unsafe mode will only occur after a static number of blocks currently set to five.

Additional upgrades:

  • The MoneroV RPC crashing on open wallet bug was fixed.
  • Default logging and old logic were removed.
  • Transaction numbers and block size information were added to the daemon and can be queried by the RPC wallet.
  • New unit tests were added.

Community Update – Paper Wallet, Faulty Blocks, P2P

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

MoneroV Paper Wallet

By popular demand, the official MoneroV paper wallet has been released and can be downloaded on Github. The paper wallet generator can be used to create a MoneroV wallet and address offline without the use of external javascript and online access. Exchanges and third-party custodian services can use this secure way to generate cold wallets and regular users can use to keep their wallet creation private.

The offline wallet features mnemonic seed words in English, Spanish and Japanese and customizable address generation with a prefix.

Faulty Block Data Rejection

The main blockchain consensus algorithm was updated to prevent getting invalid block data when a recent block of a foreign chain is not found. It is advised to update to the latest wallet although it is not mandatory as this update only reduces overhead.

P2P Improvement

An update to the MoneroV P2P protocol has addressed several bugs that prevented users from connecting into the MoneroV protocol including a HTTP parsing bug and an address bounding bug. Users who have been facing connectivity issues should upgrade their clients to ensure a steady connection to the network.

Community Update – Miner Handling, Outputs Security

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

The team and community are looking forward to expanding the adoption of XMV as a privacy cryptocurrency and blockchain project. You can take part by suggesting improvements, mining, spreading the word or by implementing the MonerovWP plugin on your website.

MoneroV Miner Handling Update

The MoneroV miner has been updated to include better handling of optional parameters that were buggy. This isn’t a protocol or an algorithm change, rather an optional update for miners who were looking to use additional options such as background mining and battery ignore that were reported to be buggy.

Transaction Outputs Security Upgrade

An upgrade was made to make sure tx outputs are processed only once in all three wallets (wallet RPC, wallet GUI, and wallet CLI). This will ensure exchanges, third-party custodian services, and regular MoneroV GUI wallet users will be protected from any future attack vector attempting to manipulate incoming tx outputs.

The recent changes and fixes allowd services and exchanges such as TradeOgre to resume deposits and withdrawals on their platform.

Community Update – Network Upgrade Privacy, MinGW, Mem Access

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Monero’s Protocol Upgrade, MoneroV & Security

Monero’s latest release (v0.13.0) starting from block 1685555 enabled a reduction in transaction sizes with Bulletproofs, but added fixed global ringsize to 11 and have updated the PoW algorithm to a different CryptoNight variant.

The Monero update included a change of random selection that is severely harming privacy as now many of the decoys used in transactions are from empty blocks.

As pointed out by Coinjournal:

BTC.com engineer and concerned Monero user ‘Lacksfish’ has outlined a troubling bias towards the use of coinbase (block reward) transactions as decoys (also known as mixins) occuring on the post-fork Monero chain, with potentially troublesome privacy implications. The Github issue outlined here points towards a concerning number of recent transactions in which there is a disproportionate number of block reward transactions utilised as decoys in the ring signature. A fix has now merged and a new version of the Monero CLI has now been released, but a number of other wallets are yet to upgrade.

This is not the case with MoneroV as MoneroV still has a ringsize that is by default 7 and can be changed to maximize security when transacting. Since the update, MoneroV’s network remains stable, robust and saw a surge of mining power at the time of the update. The release of the upgrade might present unknown vulnerabilities and unnecessary change to Monero. Bulletproofs in its current implementation is more computational intensive then RingCT, hence presenting a serious drawback.

As mentioned in earlier updates and in community talks, MoneroV’s independent network will not tweak its PoW algorithm as of now. Miners, pools, and services do not need to make any changes or download new software to use the MoneroV network which is stable. MoneroV remains the leading Cryptonight V7 based blockchain project, with improvements and add-ons we will be introducing in the coming months.

Googletest on MinGW, Epee and Memory Access Fixes

We have fixed multiple compilation issues in the test suite under MinGW. This will also cause the buildbot to run the tests without issues under Windows. In addition, an iostream bug in Epee was fixed and a fix was issued for an incorrect memory access in devices.

Community Update – Monero’s Network Upgrade, Burning Bug, Eppe

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Monero’s Protocol Upgrade & MoneroV

Approximately on the 18th-19th of October (Monero’s version 8 starts from block 1685555), Monero will undergo a network upgrade. MoneroV’s independent network will not tweak its PoW algorithm as of now. Miners, pools, and services do not need to make any changes or download new software to use the MoneroV network which is stable.

We believe the changes introduced in the XMV launch are sufficient to curve potential threats to the network, and miners of all kinds can support the blockchain as it is. Minimum ringsize will remain at 7, with the option to increase when sending XMV’s.

MoneroV is and will remain the leading Cryptonight V7 based blockchain project, with improvements and add-ons we will be introducing in the coming months.

Monero Burning Bug Fix

The burning bug is a situation where a wallet is not providing a warning as it is receiving a ‘burnt’ output. As a result, an attacker could not directly benefit and accumulate coins but can harm the wallets of different organizations. We are glad to update that the Burning bug issue was already addressed and fixed weeks ago.

It is important for the community to be aware that there are no known security bugs or issues with the XMV network that prevents services, exchanges or pools to interact with the blockchain.

DoS/RPC Eppe Bug fix

A pair of denial of service vulnerabilities have been found, one by the Cisco Talos team, and one reported by the Monero team. In addition, a bug was found that could affect the RPC wallet. Both fixes have been pushed to master.

  • By popular demand, we have added a version command to SimpleWallet and the Wallet RPC Server has been upgraded with an equivalent get_version command. Exchanges and third-party services could use these methods instead of the convoluted approach of the past.
  • We are glad to announce the addition of the public multi-sig signing. Services such as wallets and other third-party providers can now take full advantage of the MoneroV multi-sig compatibility.
  • Daemon API additions – Through the process of helping third-party services integrate MoneroV into their systems, versioning issues have been causing a major setback for these services both when updating code and creating a backward compatible environment. We have added new API methods including versioning that will help mitigate these issues.
  •  Development stack tracing addition – Understanding why things fail in the development is crucial to speed up testing and resolve ongoing issues and code commits. This is the reason we added better stack tracing to figure out quickly the reasons behind a potential crash and fix bugs much faster.

Community update – WooCommerce Plugin & SimpleWallet

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project & team. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

MoneroV Woocommerce Payment Gateway Plugin Release Date

We are glad to announce the release date of the MoneroV WooCommerce Plugin. WooCommerce powers more than 110,000 ecommerce websites, from small family businesses to large established brands. It is the most popular platform vendors use to sell both digital and physical items online. Starting from October the 1st, anyone with a WordPress based website will be able to accept MoneroV as a choice of payment in their website.

MoneroV could be used to buy thousands of products securely and anonymously. The MoneroV Payment Gateway Plugin will expose MoneroV to a larger section of users who seek to use privacy-focused cryptocurrencies while shopping online and enable them to purchase everyday products anonymously.

While Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash are used to some extent in online shopping, we believe there is still friction from buyers as they seek to make purchases anonymously. It is our strong belief that MoneroV could reduce this friction and be the coin of choice for online websites and marketplaces that have a privacy-aware userbase.

SimpleWallet and Wallet RPC Server Updates

By popular demand, as we finalize the WooCommerce integration we also have added a version command to SimpleWallet and the Wallet RPC Server has been upgraded with an equivalent get_version command. Exchanges and third-party services could use these methods instead of the convoluted approach of the past.
