MoneroV WP Plugin Released

As was promised in our last community update, we are glad to release the official of the MoneroV WooCommerce Plugin (MonerovWP). The repository is open sourced and can be accessed on the MonerovWP GitHub page: https://github.com/monerov/monerovwp.

WooCommerce powers more than 110,000 e-commerce websites, from small family businesses to large established brands. It is the largest platform vendors use to sell both digital and physical items online. Anyone with a WordPress based website can now accept MoneroV as a choice of payment on their website.

MoneroV can now be used to buy thousands of products securely and anonymously through the WooCommerce platform. The MoneroV WP Plugin exposes MoneroV to a larger section of users who seek to use privacy-focused cryptocurrencies while shopping online and enable them to purchase everyday products anonymously.

Getting started with the MonerovWP Plugin is easy and straightforward-

Our team is working on and looking forward to implementing more plugins and extension to include XMV on common eCommerce gateways. Join the community as we help onboard more websites use XMV as the secure, anonymous currency default!

Community update – WooCommerce Plugin & SimpleWallet

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project & team. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

MoneroV Woocommerce Payment Gateway Plugin Release Date

We are glad to announce the release date of the MoneroV WooCommerce Plugin. WooCommerce powers more than 110,000 ecommerce websites, from small family businesses to large established brands. It is the most popular platform vendors use to sell both digital and physical items online. Starting from October the 1st, anyone with a WordPress based website will be able to accept MoneroV as a choice of payment in their website.

MoneroV could be used to buy thousands of products securely and anonymously. The MoneroV Payment Gateway Plugin will expose MoneroV to a larger section of users who seek to use privacy-focused cryptocurrencies while shopping online and enable them to purchase everyday products anonymously.

While Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash are used to some extent in online shopping, we believe there is still friction from buyers as they seek to make purchases anonymously. It is our strong belief that MoneroV could reduce this friction and be the coin of choice for online websites and marketplaces that have a privacy-aware userbase.

SimpleWallet and Wallet RPC Server Updates

By popular demand, as we finalize the WooCommerce integration we also have added a version command to SimpleWallet and the Wallet RPC Server has been upgraded with an equivalent get_version command. Exchanges and third-party services could use these methods instead of the convoluted approach of the past.

Join the MoneroV Team!

We are looking for talented individuals to join the expanding MoneroV team including:

  • C++ developer with at least two years of Qt experience and experience with blockchain protocols. Full or part-time work opportunity to work on the MoneroV GUI.
  • Community and outreach manager with proven knowledge working on a CryptoNote / Privacy based blockchain project. Help expand social media reach, outreach campaigns and be in charge of 3rd party merchant integration (to include XMV)  from start to finish.

Community update – Public Multisig, Daemon API and Stack tracing

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project & team. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Public Multisig signing addition

We are glad to announce the addition of the public multi-sig signing. Services such as wallets and other third-party providers can now take full advantage of the MoneroV multi-sig compatibility. We hope this will make additional services accept and use MoneroV.

Daemon API additions

Through the process of helping third-party services integrate MoneroV into their systems, versioning issues have been causing a major setback for these services both when updating code and creating a backward compatible environment. We have added new API methods including versioning that will help mitigate these issues.

Development stack tracing addition

Understanding why things fail in the development is crucial to speed up testing and resolve ongoing issues and code commits. This is the reason we added better stack tracing to figure out quickly the reasons behind a potential crash and fix bugs much faster.

Core RPC Upgrade

The MoneroV core RPC server code has been updated and tested to include more methods for MoneroV to be compatible with more third-party services. Custodian services including wallets and pools can upgrade to the latest version and additional applications, who were constrained by the older protocol, will now be able to integrate MoneroV into their services.

Yosemite Compatibility

We glad to announce that the MoneroV daemon is now compatible with MacOs Yosemite. Many users have requested to integrate Yosemite as it is still a well maintained MacOS version that is used both by users and by many production and testing environments.

Coinmarketcap Integration

As with many other integrations in various platforms we are glad to announce that coinmarketcap.com, the largest website for tracking capitalization of various cryptocurrencies is in the process of integrating MoneroV in its platform following the total coin supply in circulation code upgrade.

Community Update – New Team Members, Community, HitBTC

We are excited to update the community on the recent additions and improvements to the MoneroV project & team. Be sure to get updated and check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

New Team and Community Members

We are glad to announce the addition of Ariel (@Hoorinaiito) to our development team! Besides being the founder of LuKa, he is an experienced C++ developer that will contribute to all aspects of the MoneroV development phases.

And congratulations to Antony (@Antony047) who is now the latest addition to our community team, as an Admin of the MoneroV Telegram chat, as well as an admin for the Russian XMV community!

We are always looking for highly skilled individuals to join the MoneroV team. If you are thrilled working on a leading privacy crypto-currency, get in touch with us by emailing us at [email protected]. Available positions include:

  • C++ developer with at least two years of Qt experience and experience with blockchain protocols. Full or part-time work opportunity to work on the MoneroV GUI.
  • Community and outreach manager with proven knowledge working on a CryptoNote / Privacy based blockchain project. Help expand social media reach, outreach campaigns and be in charge of 3rd party merchant integration (to include XMV)  from start to finish.

HitBTC Implementation and Clarifications

As most of the community is well aware, HitBTC has announced support of the MoneroV fork previously in several occasions. Our team is still in close contact with their representatives and have progressed with implementation steps. As of late, we have already supplied their team with XMV for testing purposes and were assured that listing date is fast approaching. We are waiting on their team’s update of a set listing date on which will update the community of as soon as we will have it.

Continuous Integration Pipeline

We had explored and tested different CI/CD frameworks in order to streamline the development and testing of new code additions. As the MoneroV static binary creation requires a very flexible framework that can handle specific details for every OS, we had decided to improve the Buildbot pipeline. In the past, the pipeline could not deal with releasing the full static binaries automatically as it required manual configuration at the linking stage. From now on this is all automated and new releases will be much faster.

CryptoNote Double Counting Outs Bug – Implementation By Exchanges

Users can now safely deposit and withdraw XMV in popular exchanges. If an exchange has suspended deposits or withdrawals, it has nothing to do with XMV’s functionality, as after the Cryptonote double-counting bug fix was released (as was detailed in the recent update), exchanges are able to update their codebase and resume with XMV trading.

On the same note, we have few additional pools joining the MoneroV movement, including xmv.codpool.com and supportmonerov.com.

Upcoming XMV Blockchain Trivia – 16.8 – 7 PM GMT

We will be hosting a second round of the XMV blockchain community trivia next Thursday, 7 PM GMT. This time on our Telegram channel. We will be featuring related questions and host giveaways upward of 500 XMV.

Improved Continuous Integration Pipeline

We had explored and tested different CI/CD frameworks in order to streamline the development and testing of new code additions. As the MoneroV static binary creation requires a very flexible framework that can handle specific details for every OS, we had decided to improve the Buildbot pipeline. In the past, the pipeline could not deal with releasing the full static binaries automatically as it required manual configuration at the linking stage. From now on this is all automated and new releases will be much faster.

New MoneroV Team Members

We are excited to announce a couple of additions to the core team including Vova, a senior C++ developer with in-depth blockchain experience that will join the Back-end development team and Andrew, a front-end designer. We are looking for more highly skilled individuals to join the team.

Community Update – Wallet, Pools, Exchanges, Team

Since the successful mainnet launch, we are excited to see the enormous support the MoneroV movement is receiving by the community, miners, privacy-focused projects, exchanges, 3rd party services and the blockchain sphere as a whole. XMV is shaping up to be a leading privacy-focused, decentralized cryptocurrency to be used across the globe.

MoneroV is the first and only cryptonight fork with two-way replay protection, as well as a maintained blockchain and network with a vibrant community. Regarding exchanges and 3rd-parties support including HitBTC, ShapeShift, MinerGate and others – It is 100% on their teams to credit or list XMV. The blockchain is fully operational and has been easily integrated into many services. Our team is available to help integrate MoneroV into capable and willing services who are ready to do so.

+ The network’s hash rate has been kept healthy since launch. Be sure to support small and medium size pools listed below to help the MoneroV network staying decentralized: noobxmv.com magnificentpool.comxmv.leafpool.com, cryptoknight.cc/monerov,  monerov.herominers.com .

Say hello to our community’s Steemit account! We are hosting weekly contests, updates and ongoing information about CryptoNote and privacy-related blockchain content. See our recent Steemit CryoptoNote update here.

+ The community is growing fast! The team is looking for talented developers and community managers to join the project. Be sure to check out the community & ambassador program, join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Cryptonote Double Counting Outs Bug Fix

A recent bug in the Monero wallet, which MoneroV is derived from, was discovered recently. When a transaction included a malicious hash comprised of double pubkeys, the receiver’s wallet could possibly count the sum transferred twice if it used a specific function to read the incoming transfer.

While this is only a read-only bug as coins are not being sent twice in reality, rather the receiving end could mistakingly log the transfer amount twice, it is still very significant for exchanges and third-party custodian services. We are glad to be one of the first Cryptonote based project to implement a fix for this bug and strongly advise other Cryptonote and Monero based projects to use our fix on github.

Web Wallet and Remote Node Update

The MoneroV web wallet development is finished but currently held back from being published due to the recent security issues that are occurring in web wallets such as MyMonero – Monero’s web wallet. As many Monero users report missing funds and connectivity issues using it. We will publish the web wallet at a time we have maximum assurances from third-party auditors regarding its safety, something that was not done properly in many similar projects, as the security of user’s funds is our top priority.

We have also investigated the use of a Telegram based wallet solution which is easily accessed via the web client and a mobile device. As the top priority is the security of funds and reliability, this is not a viable solution as of now for us to release to the community.

In the meanwhile, we are publishing an official MoneroV remote node that will be fully maintained. An official remote node will enable MoneroV users and third-party applications a fast way to access the blockchain without the need to download it.

The address for the remote node is remote.monerov.org and can be accessed both by the GUI and CLI wallets:

GUI Wallet

In the Settings tab under “Wallet mode” choose “Remote Node“. Enter the below details and click “Connect“:

Address: remote.monerov.org
Port: 19091

The wallet now should indicate that it is connected to a remote node and your wallet’s transaction history is going to get synched.

CLI Wallet:

To use the MoneroV CLI Wallet with a remote node simply start the wallet using the following command:

monerov-wallet-cli --daemon-address remote.monerov.org:19091

Please note that using the official remote node or any other remote node is not recommend as it decreases your privacy and is less reliable than having a local copy of the blockchain. This service is given “AS IS” and the MoneroV team and anyone connected to it will not be liable to any loss of funds or damage that might occur to you by using it or its related services. Use it at your own risk.

Self Hosted Block Explorers and Remote Nodes

We are thankful for the community members who are taking initiative to further expand the reach and accessibility of MoneroV. Recently, more remote nodes were made available by Baikal Pool (IP 185.135.83.236 Port 6358), and at least one more block explorer was created by NoobXMV pool at xmvchain.net.

Join the MoneroV Team

Our development and community teams are expanding and looking for qualified, energetic members to join this exciting blockchain project. If you are thrilled working on a leading privacy crypto-currency, get in touch by emailing us at [email protected]. Available positions include –

  • C++ developer with proven knowledge working on a CryptoNote based coin. Should have a deep understanding of blockchain technology. Full or part-time work opportunity to work on the core MoneroV codebase.

Common Q&A

Q: I am seeing 1:1 ratio of XMV:XMR instead of the promised 10:1, why?

A: You need to be fully synced with the XMV blockchain to show the correct amount of XMV you are credited with. Check if you are fully synced until the latest block as a local node. Close the wallet from ‘Settings’ tab and re-launch it, try to ’Rescan Balance’ from the Settings tab If the problem persists. Import by mnemonic seed / private keys rather than the keys file. Another reason could be that you tried to import an XMR wallet rather than importing by the seed key.

Q: I’m not able to connect with the blockchain, is the network down?

A: MoneroV is a decentralized, peer to peer network. Avoiding centralization means somewhat of a slow beginning, but a robust P2P network that grows for years to come. Please be patient when synchronizing to the network, it will catch up soon. You can alternatively use a remote node.

Q: The wallet is not loading/crashing on execution, why?

A: Launch the wallet using the ‘start low graphics mode’ option.

Q: How can I mine XMV?

A: You can solo mine or join a pool that supports CryptoNoteV7 mining. See the full mining guide here.

Q: I keep getting an error with Monerovd.exe crashing/refusing to run, why??

A: If you are using windows, the GUI is bringing up a false positive with Windows Defender/Antivirus. Try disabling them and running the GUI/Daemon again.

Q: I am seeing 0 XMV after claiming from my seed?

A: You need to be fully synced with the XMV blockchain to show the correct amount of XMV you are credited with. Please check if you are fully synced until the latest block as a local node. Import mnemonic seed instead of .keys file.

Q: When will other exchanges such as HitBTC, Bittrex and Bithumb list XMV?

A: The MoneroV team is in talks with exchanges to adopt, credit and list XMV. We have confirmation that Bithumb has acknowledged and prepared for the recent snapshot, with the possibility of listing and crediting XMV in the future. HitBTC is working on implementing the blockchain and listing MoneroV soon and can be contacted by their support system and recent pinned Reddit thread. Get in touch with your exchange or custodian service for help with crediting and listing.

Successful Mainnet Launch – Updates

The MoneroV hard-fork has been successfully executed and launched publicly with all dependencies available on the MoneroV GitHub repository. We are happy to say that since Mainnet launch we are seeing tremendous support both from long-time community members, new XMV coin holders, miners, and many 3rd party services and eco-systems interested in the project and future development.

Since Mainnet launch and the release of the MoneroV wallet, many community members have downloaded and synced with the blockchain, miners are successfully maintaining a stable network, several exchanges have already credited and listed XMV, and minor bug fixes have been handled.

We are excited to say that the beginning of the project proves to be a great success, and a positive indicator on the future path of MoneroV being a leading decentralized, finite, and truly private currency. Thank you for supporting the network and helping the MoneroV blockchain being decentralized. The team is working hard on further development, a technical bounty program, bug fixes, 3rd party integrations and much more.

Please take the time to catch up with some common questions and clarifications:

Updates and Clarifications

+ You can find community guides on safely claiming XMV here, and here. In-depth information about mining XMV can be found here. The only official Github repository is available here. There is NO closed-source software related to MoneroV.

We have yet to release official full nodes to avoid centralization and having as many full nodes supporting the network. Please sync with a full local node rather than using a third-party remote node at this time. As the network grows, remote nodes will be made available for you to use in the future. Please be patient for the blockchain to fully sync. We thank you for supporting the network!

Many pools have already enabled XMV mining including  monerov.herominers.com  magnificentpool.comxmv.leafpool.com,
xmvpool.net,
cryptoknight.cc/monerov, among others.

+ MoneroV incorporated a new unique difficulty adjustment algorithm that helped mitigating attacks on the network including block mining difficulty manipulations and lagging. Two-way replay protection is in place – transactions on the Monero network could not be replayed on the new MoneroV blockchain and vice-versa.

+ MoneroV incorporates the new cryptonight algorithm variation for mitigating ASIC mining. MoneroV is not related to any other coin and has its own development path.

+ The community is growing rapidly! We have launched the community & ambassador program. Be sure to check it out and join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

Fork Date Approaching & Updates

As we are approaching the fork block height (#1564965) and the community is expanding every day, the MoneroV hard-fork has gained extensive support from across the cryptocurrency and blockchain space. Since our latest announcement, the team has made significant progress with development, alongside additional exchange and third-party services support.

The hard-fork split event is on target and will not be delayed. We are dedicated and excited to realizing the vision of a truly decentralized & finite privacy currency for the community.

Updates and Clarifications

+ Many exchanges and services have already announced their support of the MoneroV fork. These include HitBTC, CoinEx, BTC-alpha, Coinroom, Ovis & Octaex among others. We are happy to be one of the most supported coins and forks by exchanges, introducing major cooperations a month prior to the chain-split event. Additional listings will be officially announced soon.

+ MoneroV incorporated a new unique difficulty adjustment algorithm that will mitigate attacks on the network including block mining difficulty manipulations and lagging, as was the case in the Monero blockchain after the April 6th update.

+ The previous concern of invalidating inputs was fully resolved as we have included the shared ring database (“ringdb”) feature that was created by the Monero team. Essentially, any previous privacy concern was mitigated altogether.

+ MoneroV incorporates the new cryptonight algorithm variation for mitigating ASIC mining. MoneroV is not related to any coin and will have its own (decentralized) development path.

+ Official MoneroV mining pools have already been tested and are ready for the launch.

+ Two-way replay protection is in place. Transactions on the Monero blockchain will not be able to be replayed on the MoneroV blockchain and vice versa.

+ MoneroV’s community is growing rapidly! We have launched the community & ambassador program. Be sure to check it out and join the discussion on Telegram and follow us on Twitter.

+ MoneroV’s source code, including the MoneroV GUI wallet, the MoneroV daemon, and all other dependencies will be 100% open sourced and published on Github publicly for the community to audit before it is released in a downloadable form. Claims of closed-source software are false.

We are extremely glad with the progress up until now and look forward to a successful hard-fork that will mark the creation of MoneroV.

Important Notes

+ The fork date is an estimation. The chain-split would take place on block height #1564965, which due to the block lagging of Monero’s software update might occur a day or two later than expected. Keep track of the block height and pay attention to updates on our social channels. Be sure to hold Monero locally or with a supporting exchange as we approach the block. If a third party stores your Monero, you will need to inquire with them about crediting you with MoneroV (XMV) at a 1:10 ratio.

Practice safe forking. Beware any wallet that is not the official, open-source MoneroV wallet that will be published here on our website (MoneroV.org). Never insert your private keys into any website, closed-source software, Google form or anything else except for the official open-sourced MoneroV GUI wallet.

+ You can create a new wallet for this fork, and claim XMV anytime in the future using credentials of an empty Monero wallet that had XMR at the time of the snapshot. Keep a backup of your mnemonic private key (seed key) or both your private spending key and private view key to extract your XMV. Be sure to contact your web-based wallet (or others) for the availability of these sets of keys.

+ The only reason the MoneroV GUI wallet source code will not be publicly released sooner (except to third-party services) is to prevent phishing attempts using a cloned MoneroV GUI wallet. This is a common practice similar to previous notable hard-fork events.

+ We will never ask you to register on any form/website that promises an ‘airdrop’ of MoneroV. The only XMV coins that will be generated are copy-imaged of the XMR coins the wallets at the time of the snapshot hold. You will never be asked or required to pay for anything at any time. You should never insert your private keys into any website, closed-source software, Google form or anything else except the official open-sourced MoneroV GUI wallet. Never send funds in any form to anyone.

We wanted to thank the community and supporters that are making this happen! If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with us, or see the recent FAQ and updates post for more information.
